Essential Word-Knowledge Skills
Friday, March 16, 2012
- from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 17, 2012
- from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Training in Essential Word-Knowledge Skills is a resource for teachers and clinicians who are looking for effective techniques and curricular materials to help children through the beginning steps of developing word knowledge, as well as to help children and adults who have not mastered written language skills.  Essential Word-Knowledge Skills combines phonetic analysis, a technique by which the explicit correspondence between the spelling of a word and the sounds of the word if spoken (its phonetic representation) is obtained, with word-knowledge learning and fluency training.

Essential Word-Knowledge Skills: Spelling
Thursday, March 22, 2012 - from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Essential Word-Knowledge Skills for Spelling has been revised and will be offered to those who have completed the Essential Word-Knowledge Skills basic course, for the price of the course materials

Precision Teaching
Monday, March 26, 2012 - from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Precision Teaching is an instructional approach, or tool, for accelerating students' development in basic skills or basic knowledge areas and for improving instruction as well as monitoring its effectiveness. Precision Teaching does not take the place of the instructional programs we offer; rather, it adds a 'fluency' component to the work we and our students do.

Reaching All Students in the Mathematics Classroom
Friday, March 30, 2012 - from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, March 31, 2012 - from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Mathematics can be an area of discomfort for children who have difficulty learning the concepts for a variety of reasons. Research has shown that use of hands on, concrete materials can help students to conceptualize math concepts for greater understanding. The course was offered first in Spring 2012 and again in Winter 2011. NHPIN has had numerous requests to present the program again.

Lisa Zack-Swasey, M.Ed., CAGS and Lois Bick, A.S. have trained with Mahesh Sharma and have used him techniques successfully for more than ten years. They will address reasons for students’ difficulties in mathematics and demonstrate the use of manipulatives for you to implement into your classroom. Skills include: developing number sense, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions and decimals; developing the concepts of fractions and decimals; bridging from one skill level to another (generalizing skills); and addressing the needs of a diverse classroom.

In Depth Mathematics
Saturday, May 5, 2012 - from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Per request of participants who completed Reaching All Students Mathematics in 2010 and 2011, Lisa Zack-Swasey and Lois Bick have agreed to offer In-Depth Mathematics! The In-Depth Mathematics workshop will provide a more in-depth examination of various mathematical algorithms and vertical acceleration using hands on materials. Specific questions and problem areas will be addressed. We invite you to bring classroom questions and experiences! You may wish to submit specific areas you would like covered and can do so on the registration form.
