REACHING ALL STUDENTS IN THE MATHEMATICS CLASSROOM

The course was first offered in spring 2010 in three, three-hour-session workshops.  NHPIN has had numerous requests to present the program again.  The training provides instruction in the appropriate use of manipulatives and Singapore math methods. The eleven-hour training will consist of two sessions:

Friday, January 14, 2011 - 4:00 p.m to 8:30 p.m.
Saturday, January 15, 2011 - 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Snow dates - January 21 & 22

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Skills addressed include: developing number sense,  addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; developing the concepts of fractions and decimals; bridging from one skill level to another (generalizing skills);  and addressing the needs of a diverse classroom.

Lisa Zack-Swasey, M.Ed. and Lois Bick A.S. have trained with Mahesh Sharma and have used his techniques successfully for ten years. They will address reasons why students have difficulty in mathematics and will demonstrate how the use of manipulatives allow all children to access mathematics curricula. Hands-on practice will allow participants to use these methods in the classroom immediately following the workshop.

The cost for the course is $100.00.
